On October 20, 2026, AliExpress and YouTube announced an international expansion of their shopping affiliate partnership. Following an initial pilot in South Korea that began in March 2026, the native shopping integration expanded to eligible creators based in four additional markets: the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Brazil.
This update allows you to search the AliExpress catalog inside YouTube Studio and tag items directly in your long-form videos, Shorts, and livestreams. Viewers who watch your content can tap a product tag, inspect the details, and jump directly to AliExpress to complete their purchase. You earn an affiliate commission on qualifying orders without having to paste messy tracking URLs into your video descriptions, pin links in comment sections, or rely on external link-in-bio services.
For creators who produce budget tech roundups, craft tutorials, 3D printing guides, home decor builds, or fashion hauls, this opens a massive catalog of components and products. But making money with retail marketplace tags requires an understanding of how commission windows work, which products to select, and how to present recommendations without losing audience trust.
Here is everything you need to know to set up native AliExpress tags, format them across different video types, and build a consistent affiliate income stream.
Who qualifies and how to check your access in YouTube Studio
The AliExpress integration runs through the existing YouTube Shopping affiliate infrastructure. Access is rolling out gradually to creators in the eligible regions. As of October 25, 2026, you must meet YouTube's standard Shopping affiliate criteria to use the tool:
- YouTube Partner Program membership: Your channel must be approved for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP).
- Channel location: Your channel must be based in an eligible country (the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, or South Korea).
- Audience thresholds and settings: Your channel must meet YouTube Shopping subscriber minimums and cannot be set as Made for Kids. Channels designated as Official Artist Channels or focused primarily on music are excluded.
- Clean standing: Your channel must have no active Community Guidelines strikes.
To check if your channel already has access to AliExpress offers, follow these steps in your browser:
- Open YouTube Studio.
- In the left-hand navigation menu, click Earn.
- Select the Shopping tab.
- Look for the Explore affiliate offers section.
If the program is active on your channel, you will see participating retailers listed alongside their current commission terms. AliExpress will appear in your retailer roster, often featuring items from its Brand+ program (a curated selection of vetted local and international brand products).
If you do not see the marketplace yet, check back weekly. YouTube rollouts typically occur in batches across channel tiers, so access expands across eligible accounts over several weeks.
How to tag AliExpress products in Shorts, long videos, and livestreams
Once the integration is active on your channel, you can tag products during the upload process or retroactively add tags to your back catalog. How you tag items depends on the format of your video.
Tagging long-form videos
Long-form videos give you the most flexibility because you can display product tags at specific moments during your video:
- Go to Content in YouTube Studio and click the video you want to edit.
- On the video details page, click the Shopping box.
- Click the pencil icon to open the product selector.
- Use the search bar to find the exact AliExpress product you featured. You can search by product name, URL, or seller name.
- Drag and drop the selected items to arrange the order in which they appear in the shopping drawer.
- Add timestamps to your tags. By aligning the product tag with the exact second you hold up or discuss an item, a contextual banner appears on screen right when the viewer is most interested.
- Click Save.
Tagging YouTube Shorts
Shorts are built for quick, visual demonstrations. When you tag an AliExpress product in a Short, YouTube adds a small "View products" button in the lower-left corner of the screen:
- Upload your Short through YouTube Studio on desktop or the YouTube mobile app.
- On the details screen before publishing, tap Tag Products.
- Search for the AliExpress item and select it.
- Save your changes and publish.
Viewers can tap the shopping tag to open a clean overlay sheet, view the item name and price, and tap through to AliExpress without closing your Short.
Tagging livestreams
If you host live builds, unboxing sessions, or Q&A streams, you can pin products in real time:
- Set up your stream in the Live Control Room.
- Under the stream settings, open the Shopping panel and select the AliExpress items you plan to showcase.
- During the broadcast, click the Pin Product button next to any item you are actively talking about.
- The item will pin to the top of the live chat for all viewers until you replace it or unpin it.
How commissions and returns work on marketplace items
Affiliate marketing on an international marketplace functions differently from tagging items from domestic department stores. You must understand commission timing, return rules, and price structures to predict your income accurately.
Commission rates are set by the seller and platform
AliExpress does not use a single flat commission rate across its entire inventory. Instead, individual rates vary depending on the product category and the merchant. High-margin items like phone cases, specialty cables, camera mounting rigs, and craft supplies often carry higher commission percentages, while brand-name electronics generally carry lower percentages.
Always check the listed commission rate in YouTube Studio before planning dedicated content around a specific item. YouTube's affiliate rules state that your payout is calculated using the commission rate active at the moment the viewer completes their purchase, not the rate that was displayed when you first tagged the video.
The return window determines when you get paid
You do not receive your commission the moment a viewer buys an item. Cross-border purchases take time to ship, clear customs, and arrive at the customer's door.
Once an item is delivered, the customer has a standard return window to request a refund. If a customer cancels an order before delivery or returns the item during the return period, that commission is reversed. For this reason, shopping affiliate earnings typically sit in a pending status for 30 to 90 days before clearing into your AdSense payout account.
| Product Type | Typical Commission Level | Return Risk | Recommended Content Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Specialty Maker Parts (microcontrollers, 3D printer nozzles, LEDs) | High | Very Low | Step-by-step tutorials and build guides |
| Desk Accessories & Organization (cable management, stands) | Moderate to High | Low | Studio tour or desk setup videos |
| Budget Audio & Peripherals (microphones, budget mechanical keyboards) | Moderate | Moderate | In-depth audio tests and honest sound comparisons |
| Apparel & Sizing-Sensitive Items | High | High | Sizing-detail hauls with exact measurement guides |
Strategies to drive sales without hurting audience trust
A common mistake with marketplace affiliate programs is tagging dozens of cheap items in the hope that viewers click something. This clutters your screen, annoys viewers, and usually produces low conversion rates. High-performing creators treat shopping tags as a service to the viewer.
1. Test items thoroughly before publishing
AliExpress carries a massive range of quality, from outstanding factory-direct tools to unreliable knockoffs. Never tag an item you have not personally held, tested, and used. If you recommend a budget soldering iron or a desk lamp that breaks after two weeks, you might earn a one-dollar commission, but you will permanently lose that viewer's trust. Show the product working on camera, mention its flaws honestly, and explain why it is worth the lower price point.
2. Focus on the Brand+ catalog for higher reliability
AliExpress designed its Brand+ program to highlight established manufacturers and vetted merchant storefronts. These sellers generally offer faster shipping, clearer tracking, and more consistent build quality than unvetted storefronts. When browsing available affiliate items in YouTube Studio, filter for Brand+ listings to give your viewers a better buying experience.
3. Be transparent about international shipping times
Viewers accustomed to next-day delivery from domestic retailers need realistic expectations. A good habit is mentioning delivery speeds directly in your video or description:
- "This macro lens adapter took 11 days to arrive in California."
- "If you order these keyboard switches, expect about two weeks for shipping to the UK."
Setting expectations upfront prevents buyer frustration, which directly reduces order cancellations and customer returns.
4. Create thematic YouTube Shopping Collections
YouTube allows you to organize tagged products into Shopping Collections. If you film a video titled "Building a Budget Podcast Setup Under $100," you can group the microphone arm, pop filter, USB interface, and acoustic foam into a single collection. Viewers can browse the entire collection in one place rather than digging through separate tags.
Legal disclosures and platform compliance
Because you earn money when viewers buy tagged products, you must comply with advertising laws and platform guidelines.
- Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requirements: If you are in the United States or targeting US viewers, you must clearly disclose your affiliate relationship. A simple spoken disclaimer in your video ("I earn a small commission if you purchase through the tagged products") and a visible text notice provide clear notice.
- YouTube's Paid Promotion checkbox: If an AliExpress merchant paid you a sponsorship fee or provided free products in exchange for featuring them, you must check the "Paid promotion" box in your video details. Tagging standard affiliate links for items you purchased yourself does not usually require the paid promotion box, but local commercial guidelines in countries like Germany and the UK require clear labeling of all commercial recommendations.
- Relevance guidelines: YouTube strictly prohibits tagging items that do not appear in your video. Tagging trending or high-priced items that are unrelated to your content violates YouTube Shopping policies and can result in your channel losing access to product tagging features entirely.
Checklist: Auditing your channel for AliExpress tagging
Use this checklist before you start tagging videos:
- Verify that your channel has no active strikes and is enrolled in the YouTube Partner Program.
- Open YouTube Studio and confirm that the Shopping affiliate hub is active under the Earn tab.
- Review your top 10 most viewed evergreen videos. Check if any tools, props, or background items you already featured are available on AliExpress.
- Tag existing back-catalog videos with relevant, exact product matches.
- Add timestamps to product tags on long videos so cards appear when the item is on screen.
- Include a clear, spoken affiliate disclosure in your script whenever you show a tagged product.
- Monitor your YouTube Analytics Shopping tab every 30 days to see which items drive clicks and track pending versus approved commissions.
Native marketplace tagging turns your product demonstrations into direct sales channels. By choosing reliable items, setting realistic shipping expectations, and keeping your recommendations relevant, you can build a stable affiliate revenue stream right inside your YouTube library.
